I think everyone that has met me knows that I am obsessed with makeup.
Heck, I bought a 4-layer plastic drawer just so I can keep everything in storage since the setup I had didn’t work for me anymore.
Year on year, I discover new products that join my holy grail of beauty items; and because of that I wanted to share with you the products that I’ve discovered this year that I hope you’ll give a try.
Let’s put things into order, shall we?
MAC Prep + Prime Natural Radiance
What I love about MAC’s Natural Radiance primer is that it’s suited for oily and combination skin types (that’s me!) yet it still gives me a luminous glow that works well with any foundation or cream that I put on for the day.
Dior DiorSnow Bloom Perfect Moist Cushion
For those days that you just want to even out your skin tone, this cushion foundation from Dior has a light to medium coverage that’s perfect for your day to day activities (plus it has SPF50+++!). What’s nice about this is that it also gives you that radiant glow from within.
Fenty Pro Filt’r Foundation
Rihanna’s revolutionary foundation line gave me mixed feelings at first but over time, this medium to full coverage foundation grew on me. The trick to this foundation is to work fast, it dries like crazy! Best way to apply this is to prep your skin well: exfoliate, use moisturizer, (additional step: use a prepping spray), and apply with a damp sponge such as a Beauty Blender.
NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer
NARS makes the best concealers. Coming off from the Radiant Creamy Concealer, I decided to give this a try when it came out considering that I realized I grew lighter yet again. You’d think that this would be a product that would be difficult to work with, but it’s actually very creamy and blendable.
NARS The Multiple in Copacobana
Ah yes, The Multiple…such an innovative product. While I primarily use my Copacobana as a cream contour, I have used it in other ways such as eyeshadow. What’s nice about this particular shade is that it’s not too warm nor too ashy on the skin.
Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer
The holy grail concealer/highlight of the internet, this concealer does not crease nor cake when applied to the skin. It’s very buildable and blendable, leaving the skin looking fresh and bright.
(bonus product) Contour and Highlight Palette
BYS Contour Palette Powder
Okay so putting this as a bonus product is a must! I’ve been eyeing this particular palette for a long time and finally gave in this year. What’s nice about this particular palette is that the shades can be used from light to dark skin tones. The powder is easy to blend into the skin as well. I tend to layer this on top of the cream products such as NARS The Multiple.
Marc Jacobs Beauty The O!Mega Bronzing Powder in Tan-tastic
While limited edition, this bronzer has stepped foot in my list of holy grail must-haves. It is the perfect shade for a bronzer as it is not too warm nor cool. It just gives you that tanned “I came from the beach” glow that only Marc Jacobs can give.
Tarte 12 Hour Amazonian Clay Blush in Flush
If it’s long-wearing blush you need, then it’s Tarte all the way! I swear, whenever I use this blush, it lasts me the entire night and it doesn’t even fade. With many shades available, my particular favorite called Flush leaves me with that rosy cheek goodness that I always go for, be sure to apply it via the drunk blush method for a blooming effect.
NARS Highlighting Blush in Hot Sand
Not everyone is a fan of a blinding, in-your-face highlight. I personally prefer a subtle glow across the tops of my cheekbones. NARS in Hot Sand is the perfect glow in a pan. I often find myself using this instead of my other highlighters lately since I’m into that glow from within look nowadays.
Colourpop Crystal Liquid Highlighter in Aquamarine
Also part of my new discoveries is this crystal liquid highlighter from Colourpop. I specifically chose the shade aquamarine since I have slight obsession with mermaids and this particular highlight is giving me that subtle glow which I love, oh and did I mention that they shade reflects as blue-ish purple? Talk about amazeballs!
Colourpop Yes Please Palette + Colourpop She Palette
I have been into the colorful eyeshadow trend this year thanks to my friends in the office it’s practically been a trademark of ours already! The two best discoveries of the year both come from Colourpop. I swear their palettes are the bomb! For such a reasonable price (and they go on sale!!), the powders are very pigmented and easy to blend each time I use it. Best applied with synthetic brushes, Colourpop’s powder shadows are best for those who want to keep up with trends.
Colourpop Creme Gel Liner
If I’m not wearing colorful eyeshadow then I’m wearing colorful eyeliner instead. I actually have a love-hate relationship with all kinds of eyeliner since my eyes get very watery due to contacts but this gel liner doesn’t smear all over my eyes at all!
Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Volume Mascara
Like eyeliner, mascara has always been a problem for me. I’ve gone through countless brands who I thought was the one but come a few months, they start smearing on me. Marc Jacobs has been on my lashes constantly for the past 3 months of the year and let me tell you, he did not disappoint! It gives me the volume that I need with no smearing. No racoon eyes indeed!
Maybelline Brow Tattoo Gel Tint
Everyone knows that I live by the saying “kilay is life”. I could never step out of the house without my brows. A recent discovery of mine, this particular gel tattoo from Maybelline gives me about 3 days of brows (it does get lighter with every shower you take).
Colourpop Ultra Blotted Lip
As you can tell by now I’m a fan of Colourpop. I tend to gravitate towards their satin lip formula instead of the original matte ones, but once they released the blotted lip, I haven’t looked back since. The ultra blotted lip formula tends to give you that light shade as if you’ve just eaten a popsicle.
Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche
A discovery I’ve made during my trip to the US, Bite Beauty’s lipsticks are matte yet moisturizing, comfortable on the lips, something that isn’t found in matte lipsticks often. What’s nice about Bite Beauty products is that it’s edible (well don’t go around eating the lipstick) since it’s made with food-grade ingredients so you know it’s safe for you.
Mac Prep + Prime Fix+
A staple to my makeup routine, I use the Fix+ before I start my makeup routine as a primer and to set my makeup after as well. I know I’m late to the Fix+ craze but I swear, I’ve never regretted my purchase and for sure I’d be repurchasing this once I run out.
And there you have it, my makeup discoveries for 2017. I do hope you found something that you haven’t tried yet and that I hope you’d love the products as much as I did. If you have any products that you’d want me to try out, be sure to let me know by leaving a comment below.
